Croscombe Village Orchestra was founded in January 1975 by Jo Sackett and her son Jonathan. Within two years the membership was up to thirty and has stayed between thirty and forty ever since.
The age range is from eight to eighty years old. However, we put special emphasis on encouraging the younger members. The posts of Leader of the orchestra and sectional leaders are given to the most promising youngsters who are also given the opportunity to perform solos, play in quartets and other small groups and to have their compositions performed by the orchestra.
Over the years the standard of performance inevitably rises, but a keen player with Grade IV ability would be able to enjoy playing.
The orchestra has given concerts involving many good amateur and professional soloists. In 2005 Philip Folk played Greig’s Piano Concerto to a packed hall.
The orchestra meets weekly on Fridays at 7.15 pm in either Croscombe or Dinder Village Halls. At least two concerts are given each year, one in mid-January and the other in mid-May.
Anyone who is interested in joining will receive a very warm welcome. Please contact the Conductor, Tony Bevan on 01749 344180 and come and make some new friends.
